Ephes. 6:12 (KJV) For we wrestle not against flesh
and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against
the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual
wickedness in high places.
2 Cor. 10:3-6 (KJV) For though we walk in the flesh,
we do not war after the flesh: [4] (For the weapons of our warfare
are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of
strong holds;) [5] Casting down imaginations, and every high
thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing
into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; [6]
And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when
your obedience is fulfilled.
It is interesting to read the definition of "spiritual"
in Strong's Concordance. Part of the meaning is: non-human,
divine, supernatural, religious, etc. God is a SPIRIT and we
must worship Him in spirit and in truth. It can be said that
those persons who are most recognized as "Spiritual"
are also those who are walking under the control of God's Spirit.
In Eph, 4:1- Col. 1:10 - & I Thes. 2:12, Christians
are exhorted to "walk worthy" of The Lord and his
calling, for each of us. This walk involves our daily conduct,
our conversation, and our attitudes. The mind then becomes a
major battlefield, and the enemy will stop at nothing to wage
war in our minds in order to cause us to give up!
Most new converts -disciples- to the Kingdom of God were never
warned that now they have an enemy that will wage warfare against
them from every, and any, angle that might cause them to fall
back and decide that the battle for their eternal life is not
worth the fight. While a person is not paying any attention
to God and salvation, the enemy will not give them any major
trouble, because most of the time they just drift in his pattern
of living without knowing that their feet are on the broad way
to destruction. But just as soon as a person decides to give
their heart and life to God - the battle is on!
There are many areas of warfare against those who have decided
to follow Jesus in all of His will for their life. But it seems
the gateway to most all of the battlefields is the mind. In
the Scriptures above notice the words "casting down imaginations"
and "bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience
of Christ". It seems that this is the first step that needs
to be guarded and fortified. Rom. 12:1-2 instructs us
to have our minds renewed. How? First of all by reading and
studying the WORD of God, which is the "rule book"
for all the Kingdom principles that we must learn to live by.
This spiritual education process does take time and effort
and much prayer, asking God to reveal to us the things of the
Kingdom, which is now our new eternal destiny. It will be a
great help to you if you will realize the great importance of
"walking in the Spirit", and take -or make- time to
check out the List of Scriptures that will give you a greater
understanding of what the Bible says about our common enemy
and how to overcome him by the weapons that are "mighty
through God to the pulling down strong holds." (See
Scripture List)
